NCLR Officers & Board of Directors

Miles Wynn

Miles is originally from Nebraska and moved out to California for work in 2015. Growing up in a family that spent most of the time outdoors camping, hiking, Jeeping or riding dirt bikes through the woods helped push toward joining the Northern California Land Rover Club in 2016. Miles currently drives a ex-MoD 1987 110 FFR and is currently outfitting it for extended trips. When he isn't playing with Rovers Miles spends his time hiking and camping with his wife Theresa.

Santa Cruz Mountains

Greg Bodene

Greg stumbled onto Land Rovers in the mid-90s as he found the Camel Trophy Series one late night on the long forgotten “ABC Wild World of Sports.” Fast forward to his move back to his Northern California roots and the desire to share the sense of adventure with his kids, Greg was drawn back to the brand as a means to get out and explore the area!

Initially wanting to buy a Discovery I he listened to his beloved wife who was worried about it being a reliable DD, and they settled on a nicely equipped LR4. They made several trips with it, and it wasn’t long (one off-road) before it had picked up the most desired modification of “Pinstriping” and that lead to revisiting buying a Discovery I.

Greg isn’t afraid to turn a wrench or try and help others when possible but also knows when he’s battling time constraints and will leverage those who work in the “Busted Knuckle Profession” when appropriate. Greg has continued to follow his passions with a build of his current ’95 RRC SWB that evolved from a random case of events. He has goals of hitting the major 4wd trails in California (Fordyce, Rubicon, Dusy, Johnson Valley) with the RRC and also experiencing as much of the state as possible via Overlanding in his LR4.

Sacramento Area

Mario Bergstrom

Mario's love of being outdoors and everything cars meant that Land Rovers were a match made in heaven. Mario's first car is a D1 which ended up getting a heart transplant and is now turning into a rubicon ready truck. His daily driver now is a Range Rover Sport (El Chapomint) which eats up the miles and the petrol. In 2018, he drove cross county on the Trans-America Trail in a LR3 with his dad. Which was a great experience!

Peninsula

Serge Barbir

Having volunteered at non-profits for the past 25+ years, i hope to share a little of that experience to help make our club the best it can be. I have been a Land Rover enthusiast since 1993 when I test drive a soft top NAS 90, after that, I was hooked. 25 years later, I was finally able to realize my dream car. Put an offer in, site unseen, on a eBay ad, and there you go. It's been quite a ride since then. Met a lot of really great people along the way, and volunteering as Treasurer, is my way of giving back to the community that has helped me so much in the past year and a half.

South Bay Area

Eric Herbert

Eric is a Bay Area native. He originally got into four wheeling through the Toyota rock crawling scene. After suffering a rollover on the Rubicon in 2015 he bought a 2001 D2 to use as a camping vehicle as its solid axle platform was a good starting point for a build. He is on his second D2 currently and can often be found on the rock crawling trips with his girlfriend, Merlyn, and his dogs.

South Bay Area

Don Happel

A life-long enthusiast of anything motorized, Don’s tendencies have run toward speed and corners on two wheels, 4 wheels, or afloat with names like Alfa Romeo, BMW, Porsche, Triumph, or Donzi and places like Laguna Seca or Road America. However with the purchase of an LR3 in 2013 things have slowed down and the locations have changed to Moab, SlickRock, or Rubicon. Unchanged is the urge to turn a wrench and the opinion that ‘stock is just a starting point’. The current stable includes no less than 4 Rovers and as always, mods are ever-ongoing.

Membership 2020

We're Land Rover enthusiasts. How about you?

We have members all over California; each from very different backgrounds and geographical regions, but we all come together to enjoy the spirit of adventure and the pleasure of owning "The Best 4 x 4 x Far".

We've been on a few trips.

Our club board puts effort each year into promoting a series of events that are members-only, NCLR-coordinated trips/expeditions. Here's what we have in store for 2019:

2020 Trips

  • Shaver Lake Snow Run
    Shaver Lake Snow Run

Pack the extra-warm winter bag and thermals, because this trip happens mid-February! The goal each year is to reach the Bald Mountain Peak but conditions vary from snowbanks to dry conditions.

  • Death Valley
    Death Valley

The club takes to the desert again -- experience other-worldly views and miles of challenging trails all while taking in the majestic beauty of Death Valley.

  • Pismo Dunes
    Pismo Dunes

Pismo Dunes (Oceano Dunes SVRA) is a ~5 mi. beach open for OHV use. It is the only state park in CA where vehicles can be driven on the beach.

  • Sierra Expedition / White Rock Lake
Sierra Expedition / White Rock Lake

Set up camp in the Tahoe National Forest and make the off road trek back to White Rock Lake for another chance at seeing the Perseid Meteor Showers in high resolution. Stock vehicles OK.

  • Rovicon
    Rovicon

We are taking it upon as our "Duty" with the Rubicon trail in our backyard to organize a Land Rover specific event on the trail. Check out the latest at Rovicon

  • The NCLR Annual Event
    The NCLR Annual Event

NCLR members get together for a weekend long meet-up before the year end!

What else does membership include?

As if the trips and camaraderie of it all weren't enough, here are the other key benefits an NCLR membership includes:

Forum Upgrades

With a paid membership, you are granted access to the members-only forums and your title will be upgraded to NCLR Club Member from NCLR Guest.

Voting Rights

Every member is granted a vote toward board and officer elections. Elections occur each year in the May timeframe.

Awesome stuff.

You'll have access to all NCLR logo merchandise, available on Redbubble

We're an associate club of California Off-Road Vehicle Association (CORVA)

A membership to NCLR is an investment in the off roading community. We proudly support the efforts of CORVA who lobby to keep our recreation areas open and accessible for many years to come.

Is there anything else?

NCLR membership is by calendar year -- depending on what part of the year you join, you may receive a prorate. If you are a lapsed member, you are still considered a past member and must pay your membership for the year in full to be brought current.

So where do I sign up?

We make it pretty easy. Simply create your account and select a paid membership at the time of registration. If you already have an account and want to upgrade, purchase your membership on the NCLR store.

Membership Fees

$60

New Member - Student / Senior / Military
